Job Description:

St. Andrew Catholic School is searching for an Assistant Principal for the 2022-2023 school year.

I. Catholic Leadership
   A. To know and understand Roman and American Church documents as they pertain
to the ministry of Catholic Education
   B. To cooperate with the principal and pastor in recruiting and maintaining a staff
from among candidates approved by the Office of Catholic Education.
   C. To participate in Archdiocesan and district meetings, projects, and activities
   D. To participate in professional organizations supportive of the Church’s mission of
Catholic Education
   E. To assist the principal in planning, conducting, participating and attending
regularly scheduled school and class liturgies
   F. To assist the principal in planning, conducting, participating and attending
regularly scheduled spiritual activities such as the Living Rosary, Living Nativity,
Living Stations of the Cross and the May Procession
   G. To work with the Director of Religious Education and principal to plan, practice
and celebrate the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and
Confirmation
   H. To assist the principal in scheduling an annual faculty retreat
    I. To assist the principal to ensure the semi-annual instruction of the Safe
Environment/Teaching Touching Safety lessons


II. Administration
   A. Archdiocese and Parish
      1. To cooperate with the Archdiocesan Board of Education, the staff of the
Office of Catholic Education, and the pastor in following of Archdiocesan and
state policies concerning schools
      2. To meet with the pastor for discussion of the operation of the school and to
resolve any concerns relevant to its functioning
      3. To establish good relationships with parents, parish staff, parish organizations,
community organizations and local education agencies
      4. To encourage teachers to keep parents informed of students’ progress through
parent-teacher conferences and individual contact, both verbal and written
   B. Faculty and Personnel
     1. To assist the principal in recruiting and maintaining qualified Catholic
individuals for teaching positions, assign teachers to their specific duties, and
ensure effective initiation and mentoring of new personnel into the school
staff
     2. To assist the principal in supervising all full time and part time personnel as
well as the support staff on a regular basis
     3. To assist the principal in delegating authority where possible and desirable by
assigning curriculum coordinators as well as supporting and encouraging them
in their activities
     4. To assist the principal in maintaining up-to-date personnel records on teacher
performance, experience, and professional activities
     5. To assist the principal in recruiting, assigning, and supervising substitute
personnel
     6. To assist the principal in publishing a calendar of school events for faculty,
students, and parents, and to communicate to the staff notices from the Office
of Catholic Education and other educational agencies
     7. To assist the principal in providing staff development opportunities for new
teachers as well as for experienced teachers on a regular basis    
   C. School Organization
     1. To assist the principal in conducting faculty meetings on a consistent basis and
maintaining minutes of such meetings which includes staff development as
well as a business component
     2. To assist the principal in planning and conducting monthly fire, emergency
and safety drills and keep records of dates and times
     3. To assist the principal in formulating, analyzing and updating school
emergency crisis procedures
     4. To assist the principal in formulating an annual calendar working within the
parameters of the Office of Catholic Education and all parish ministries,
ensuring that the required days and minutes are met as put forth by the state


III. Supervision
   A. Personnel
     1. To assist the principal in developing a faculty handbook, with periodic
revisions, in conjunction with an advisory group
     2. To stimulate a professional attitude within the faculty and to strive to improve
the quality of instruction
     3. To assist the principal in reviewing lesson plans weekly and to oversee the
proper use of approved programs used in the school
     4. To assist the principal in reviewing attendance, grades, student assessments,
progress reports and report cards
     5. To ensure the state induction procedures of all new faculty members    
     6. To assist the principal in instructing all faculty on the difference between
accommodations and modifications and how to work with students with
various needs
     7. To assist the principal in working with teachers to analyze student assessment
scores to establish goals and strategies for learning and achievement
   B. Students
     1. To assist the principal in supporting the appropriate learning environment
which addresses the students’ learning styles, curriculum modifications, and
special students’ services
     2. To assist the principal in nurturing a school environment that promotes in the
student the concepts of self-esteem, self-discipline, responsibility,
independence, and service to others
     3. To assist the principal in ensuring parents’ understanding of school policies
through parent and student handbooks and in providing opportunities for
communication between parents and teachers regarding student needs and
achievement
     4. To assist the principal in establishing policy and ensuring compliance with
school directives
     5. To assist the principal in formulating a parent student handbook with regular
updates
     6. To assist with special need services, counseling and evaluation meetings when
requested by the principal
     7. To assist the principal in analyzing student achievement on assessments and
establish goals and strategies for learning and instruction
        a. Coordinate, organize and facilitate Terra Nova testing


IV. Other
     1. To assist the principal in ensuring that the school maintains proper
accreditation
     2. To assist the principal in maintaining the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
status
     3. To attend monthly meetings of the parent Home and School Association    
     4. To attend all fundraising events
     5. Serve as liaison to the Saint Andrew branch of the First National Bank of
Newtown
     6. To assist the principal in scheduling and conducting Back to School nights for
teachers and parents
     7. To assist the principal in attending and supervising school dances
