Elementary School Principal – St. Aloysius School, Pottstown, PA

Elementary School Principal

Saint Aloysius School, 220 North Hanover Street, Pottstown, PA 19464

 Position Overview:

Saint Aloysius School, located in Pottstown, Montgomery County, has an opening for a principal to start the 2017-2018 school year.

This is a particularly exciting time in our 105 year history as our pastor, Fr. Joseph L. Maloney, a 2017 recipient of the NCEA’s Lead. Learn. Proclaim. award, is leading our school in relocating away from our landlocked parish campus to the site of a nearby former high school which affords us many advantages beginning with a wonderful campus. Father is devoted to the school and is looking forward to working with a dynamic faith filled principal, who is eager to collaborate with him in leading a school community with a rich heritage into a bold new future.

Our school is defined by its mission to be a Catholic school rooted in Sacred Scripture, in service to the Church and in making prayer an integral part of its daily life. St. Aloysius School seeks to educate the whole person through its strong academic program and to enrich the total person through co-curricular and extra curricular activities. The school prepares students to be life-long learners in a media-rich, global society. The school community serves not only the sending parishes by educating the children in Catholic doctrine and tradition, but also serves the wider community by giving witness to Gospel values in everyday life.

The current enrollment of Saint Aloysius School is 238 from pre-school (3yr olds) to grade 8. Its new campus (unlike the current one) will consist of a single building with plenty of classroom  space, a separate gym and cafeteria, a stage, science lab, library and technology center, grassy fields on which to play and hundreds  of lockers. There are 12 classroom teachers, a fulltime library/computer teacher, a director of development, 3 aides and 3 part-time teachers for music, language, and art. We also have an Honors Math program. A CARES program is available before and after school, and we hope to provide a summer CARES/Camp program in the very near future. An intermediate unit is always available with resource teachers.

Saint Aloysius School is fully accredited by the Middle States Association through 2019. The faculty and staff are deeply committed to the mission of Catholic education. They work diligently to foster an environment of care, concern, love of God, love of neighbor and academic excellence. The number of scholarships won by our graduates over the years is a testimony to the excellent academic program. We have received 16 Neumann Scholarships from the Connelly Foundation in the last 20 years, 1 full scholarship having been granted this year. St. Aloysius is currently leading the way in Stem education while integrating the fine arts and Catholic faith into daily lessons. Students have access to IPADS, Chromebooks, and Android Tablets. Teachers effectively integrate technology on a daily basis.

Saint Aloysius School parents are strongly encouraged to take an active role in the education of their children. The Home and School Association works closely with the administration and promotes and supports all aspects of the school with adult, family, and child oriented activities. Saint Aloysius also has a CYO program, a choir called Voices of Hope, instrumental music, science explorers, student government, annual Living Stations, and a school musical which is performed every year.

The school is defined by its Catholic identity. To foster spiritual development, Mass is celebrated weekly and confessions are scheduled twice a year. The liturgy for school masses is coordinated by a different grade for each liturgical celebration

Our pastor is looking for a principal who is a faithful Catholic and who is a strong leader educationally and administratively, but who also is able and looks forward to relating to and working with a very able, experienced and qualified faculty and becoming an integral part of our community. The principal also needs to be able to bring together students and families as members of a faith community. He or she must be passionate in working to promote our school and advancing its programs and must be capable of building and sustaining relationships among all those invested in the school:  staff, students, parents and parishioners. He or she must be fiscally minded and understand the importance of developing a sound annual budget which keeps the school on a path to financial sustainability. He or she must also be able to develop a viable marketing plan for the promotion of our school.
